Warning - Stop Smoking Drugs May Be Hazerdous To Your Health

Smoking is its own punishment.

But many smokers are being doubly punished these days with 1) a smoking cessation drug that might actually be worse for you than smoking, and 2) a new vaccine recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It’s enough to inspire you to stop smoking just to get these relentless drug merchants off your back! The Associated Press reports that the pneumococcal vaccine protects against a number of pneumococcal bacteria strains, but in the 25 years since it was first licensed it hasn’t been very effective in preventing pneumonia or in warding off pneumococcal illnesses in those with weakened immune systems.

Okay, I get it - it’s an ineffective vaccine that’s sort of effective if you have a strong immune system. Which sort of makes you wonder if strong immune function is doing all the heavy lifting in that equation.

A panel from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recently recommended that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should encourage all smokers to get the pneumococcal vaccine. The CDC is expected to sign on for the recommendation. Then stand aside and let the vaccine trucks come rolling through.

And as usual, some giant drug company is going to make a tidy little bundle on this dubious recommendation.

A couple of weeks ago, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) announced a grim milestone: The number of serious drug reactions and deaths reported to the FDA set a new record in the first quarter of 2008 - almost 21,000 serious reactions were reported, and more than 4,800 deaths.

The main factor that accounted for these high numbers was tainted batches of the blood thinner heparin imported from China.

Just a few of the side effects noted with stop smoking drugs are nausea, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness (and who wouldn’t be dizzy after those first four side effects?), chest pain, depression, and hypertension.

Earlier this year, the FDA issued a warning about “reports of suicidal thoughts and aggressive and erratic behavior in patients who have taken some of these drugs.”

Apparently that warning was right on the money.

The ISMP notes that not only did a particular stop smoking drug account for 1,001 of the serious reaction reports (the highest number of any prescription drug), but the number of serious reactions linked to this particular drugs use was higher than all of the 10 best selling brand name drugs combined.

An Associated Press report included this interesting note: “Officials are not sure whether reports are up because problems are getting worse, or simply due to greater awareness about drug safety issues.”

Riiiight. It’s not the drug that’s the problem, it’s the GROWING AWARENESS that the drug is a problem - THAT’S the problem. Got it.

The ISMP announcement urged the FDA to forcefully warn users of some of these drugs they might experience blackouts - a pretty serious side effect when you’re driving or flying.

A popular drug company spokesperson told the AP that clinical trial results show the drug’s benefits “clearly outweigh its risks.” Or - put another way - our drug isn’t as dangerous as tobacco use, which accounts for more than 400,000 U.S. deaths each year.

So, the moral of the story is if you smoke, chew or dip…STOP. Give yourself 3 days and you will kick the habit. Stay away from the junk it’s just another drug to replace a drug with side effects to replace side effects.

Are you one of those people that have tried several times to lose some weight only to end up gaining more? When I was in high school, I tried to lose some weight. I have never been on another one since. My weight averages about 5 pounds a month. I will gain this weight, and then I will lose it again all without trying. There are many ways and different kinds of diets that a person can use to lose weight, but the best thing to use with all of these diets is water.

Drink water as often as you can because this water will help your system flush itself out. All of the impurities that are in your body need to be taken out first, and then you can really start to diet. You need to make sure that you set time aside to be able to do your exercise and eat healthy foods. Get plenty of sleep to allow your body to replenish its energy.

You will need to cut back on your intake of caffeine, sugars, soda drinks, and breads. It is best to eat as much fish as you can as the oil in the fish is not only good for you, but it will also help keep your cholesterol under control. On the average, it is good to lose one to two pounds a week. If you lose it too fast, you will find that you will only gain it back and actually put on more.

Make sure that you drink a lot of water daily and don’t cheat on the foods that you eat or the exercise that you do. If by chance you can’t do your exercise, you can take a brisk walk in place of this. If you are really serious about the amount of weight you might want to lose, then go to the doctor and ask him to set you up on a diet of the foods that you can eat.

The Damage To Your Body By Cigarette Smoke

This would probably be the last time this girl might think that he is cute or even handsome.

With girls that smoke, it will really affect their facial skin because of the smoke that floats up onto their face. It will start to make their skin appear to look older than it is. Most girls will want their face as their best feature, and when they smoke it will hit their face first. Their skin will start to look a grayish color and if they don’t want it to get any worse, the best think for them is to quit. The sooner you do, the better for yourself as well as your skin.

Your body can heal itself if given enough time. Your skin will get back its youthfulness all by itself with the inside maybe needing some extra help. Perhaps consider using a patch to help with the process of quitting. It is always better to quit before it’s too late because this could mean getting cancer or some other sickness related to smoking or chewing tobacco.
